Dr. Adrian Rogers
Given during the Christmas season, the late Dr. Adrian Rogers preached from Luke 1:30–38; 2:8–14 about the authentic reality of the virgin birth.
Dr. Adrian Rogers served as the pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee for over 30 years. Rogers was a denominational leader and a local church pastor, and his preaching has reached millions through his ministry, Love Worth Finding. His sermon on the Virgin Birth—entitled “His Unequaled Birth”—is a great example of why his preaching continues to speak to listeners today. First, the sermons is biblical. Rogers works through the birth narrative in Luke’s gospel in a clear and simple way. Indeed, the defining mark of Rogers’s preaching might be biblical simplicity. His sermons were always biblical and easy to understand, even when discussing complex topics like the Virgin Birth and the hypostatic union. Second, the sermon is practical. Dr. Rogers included various illustrations and applications in his sermon. The opening illustration about sharing the gospel with Muhammad Ali was engaging and led to the theme of the sermon. The exhortation at the end of the sermon to believe the gospel and to share the gospel was appropriate and direct. Finally, the sermon was well-organized. The outline was memorable, and Dr. Rogers transitioned from one major point to the next with ease.
